Aaron began his karate journey at just four years old in the Jersey Channel Islands, attending local classes before joining the Jersey Shotokan Karate Club. There, he trained under Bill Gorthy (8th Dan, TSKA) alongside his younger brother, gaining valuable experience and inspiration from a community of seasoned karate-ka. It was during this time that Aaron developed a deep passion for karate, progressing to 1st kyu.
In 2018, Aaron and his family relocated to Sligo, where he began training with Keelan. His commitment and growth led to his 1st dan black belt in June 2021, and in September 2023, he was awarded his 2nd dan by a distinguished panel including Scott Langley (Ireland), Gabriel Van Rel (England), and Ross Stewart (Scotland).
Aaron began his instructor journey in 2022 as a trainee at Ealaín Karate Dojo, quickly progressing to lead his own classes. Known for his engaging and technical teaching style, he places strong emphasis on body mechanics and movement efficiency — helping students of all ages improve their form, coordination, and understanding of technique in a fun and accessible way.
In recognition of his dedication and achievements, Aaron received the Highest Achieving Sportsperson of the Year award at the ATU Sligo Clubs and Societies Awards in April 2024.
Aaron currently teaches weekly classes at both the Strandhill and Ballisodare dojos, where he is valued by students and parents alike for his approachable, encouraging presence and strong attention to detail.
